Roofs are one of those things that we take for granted until they stop working, at which point they suddenly become a significant stressor in our lives (best case scenario) or start to do actual financial –in some cases, even physical –damage. With so many roofs damaged or degraded in recent storms, roof repair is becoming an even more common necessity than it was.
What Are the Signs That a Roof Needs Repair?
There are many ways your roof cries out for help.
If you fail to notice them and make appropriate repairs, you’ll sooner or later run into some big problems that can affect you, your family, and your house. Ultimately, you’re the one who chooses to take action based on these cries or ignore them, but here are some things to listen for.
You can avoid this problem by keeping an eye on the direction of your roof’s shingles and calling in a professional when things go wrong. Let’s know about the signs!
Cry #1: When Shingles are Missing or Damaged
Shifting objects can damage roofs and dislodge shingles. If your roof has missing or damaged shingles, it’s almost certainly in need of repair. If this happens, consider getting a professional to repair it immediately.
Cry #2: When the flashings Get Leaky
Leaky flashings are a common problem because flashing are prone to damage. And of course, any time it rains, these leaks get worse, and can lead to water damage and short circuits before you know what’s happening. If you have water coming through your flashing, you will need an expert to check and repair any leakages. If you cannot afford a professional, consider investing in some quality flashings for your home to help protect against leaks.
Cry #3: When Your Gutters Need Repair
It’s common knowledge that gutters can be clogged by leaves, but fewer people consider that they can be damaged. This can happen through falling branches, falling (or flying) debris, and any number of weather conditions. When your drains get damaged, the gutter’s flow will be impeded, and rainwater will pool on your roof, leading to leaks, and possibly even mold, mildew, and rot.
Cry #4: When Pipe Jacks Need Replacement
When your roofing shingle overlaps the roofing system, the pipe jack holds and anchors it. If a pipe jack is damaged, your shingles are weakened, and they are more vulnerable to damage from all sources. If this happens, replace your pipe jack immediately or you’ll have to replace shingles and repair leaks, instead.
When Should You Hire A Roofing Contractor?
The best way to avoid serious (and expensive!) roof repair is to catch it early. If you’re able to repair on your own, don’t waste any time doing so. If you’re not, it’s best to call a roofing company as soon as possible.
And we are happy to help you if your roof seems like it’s in a bad way. A & R Construction is not only trained and experienced in roof repair, but ready to take on your project at a moment’s notice and nip the problem in the bud.
